Acer president questions Windows 8 success
Jim Wong puts the boot in
Acer’s President Jim Wong has made comments on Windows 8 that won’t have gone down too well at Camp Redmond. Not well at all...
In an interview with Bloomberg, Wong suggested that the Chromebook had a strong future ahead, while Windows 8 sales were disappointing. “Windows 8 itself is still not successful,” Wong is quoted as saying. “The whole market didn’t come back to growth after the Windows 8 launch, that’s a simple way to judge if it is successful or not.”
Wong’s criticism of Windows 8 is tied to its inability to kickstart the currently flailing PC market, although Microsoft would argue it’s doing quite well, given the 60 million downloads of the OS. Wong is adamant that Acer will be focusing on its Chromebook range, however - currently 5-10% of the its US shipments.
Strong words, although we imagine Acer will be developing Windows 8 devices for a while yet.
