LG deal brings gaming service to users

Google TV has signed up another partner, bringing cloud-based gaming service OnLive on board.

Thanks to a deal with hardware partner LG, the gaming service will be delivered to LG’s Google TV sets via an online update and it’s also going to be pre-installed as standard on future sets. There are some decent titles on OnLive, including Sleeping Dogs and Civilisation V, and this is far better news for the service than it’s had in more recent months.

It has emerged that the company was sold to a venture capital firm in August for less than $5m, which was something of a comedown from analysts’ previous talk of the company being worth $1.8bn. The sale saw many employees without a job and there were no payouts for early investors, rather controversially.
